CRIMINAL DEFENSE

When someone gets arrested the most common questions are how can I get out of custody and how much time am I facing. Ms. Kau knows how to maneuver through the criminal justice system and will answer all of your questions. She will advise you of issues regarding release pending trial, possible defenses, plea negotiations, and trial. She will develop a thorough understanding of your case and will work closely with you by reviewing the government’s evidence before making any decision to either enter a plea or to proceed to trial. Ms. Kau handles both state and federal matters.

CRIMINAL PROSECUTION

Given Ms. Kau’s experience as a city prosecutor, she is able to assist victims through the justice system. This includes advising the victim on whether to obtain an order for protection (or TRO), whether to file a civil lawsuit, and how to maneuver through the criminal justice system.

CIVIL LITIGATION

Ms. Kau’s accounting background in addition to her trial experience puts her in a unique position. Where most lawyers need an expert to decipher between financial records, Ms. Kau can review the records on her own and advise you of your options before having to retain an expert. Ms. Kau represents both plaintiffs and defendants in general civil litigation matters, and has handled cases involving construction litigation, real estate litigation, bad faith insurance litigation, partition actions, business disputes, and trust litigation.

Personal Injury

The justice system can be a scary place for someone that has never been involved in litigation. Ms. Kau explains each step that needs to be taken next and walks her clients through the system so that they don’t have to worry about their case and can instead focus on healing and moving on.
